"No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."

Becoming a Member

Toward the end of our worship service, following the sermon, we have our "Time for Commitment." Pastor Keith invites those who have not yet asked Jesus Christ into their lives, to do so. This is also the opportunity for those wishing to join the church to come to the altar.

If you hold membership in any other Baptist church, you can join WBC by transfering your letter of membership. The church office will handle this task.

If you have not previously belonged to a Baptist church, you may become a member by professing your faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. A member of the congregation will make a motion to receive you into the church membership. When the motion is seconded, a vote by show of hands for (or against) membership will be called. Now you're ready for baptism!

Baptism

The Southern Baptist Convention states:

Southern Baptist Convention (logo used with permission) "Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord's Supper."

Baptism is an outward, visible proclamation of one's salvation. It does not take the place of the salvation experience. Baptisms are performed several times throughout the year, and you will be notified by mail when to be ready for your day.

You and others to be baptised will be asked to meet in the office before the morning worship service, where Pastor Keith will have a few words with you. Then you'll be taken upstairs to changing rooms behind the baptistry, where you'll find white robes with name tapes. Don't remove that label! It's to help Pastor Keith call you by the right name. Remember that this is full-immersion baptism, and that white robes become somewhat transparent when soaked with water. You'll want to choose light-colored clothing for the ceremony. Pastor Keith will also be barefoot in a white robe.

Other than dry clothing for the remainder of the worship service, it would be helpful to the staff if you bring a towel, a plastic bag for your wet things to take home, a plastic bag for your wet robe and handkerchief to leave at the church, and your own hair dryer if you use one. Don't forget a comb!

Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:13-16, NIV

The Lord's Supper

The Southern Baptist Convention states:

Southern Baptist Convention (logo used with permission) "The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming."

At Wrightsboro Baptist Church, the bread and wine are distributed in the pews. This ceremony is not restricted to our own church members - visitors are welcome to join in! However, the Church respectfully requests that only Believers take part in this memorial.
